1. How long will it take until my voice is good? Unfortunately, there is no answer for this question. It all depends on the student, how much "natural ability" you start with, and how hard you work at it. We can, however, let you in on some of the facts. With our method of approaching voice, anyone who can talk can sing. If a particular student has either pitch challenges or rhythm challenges then the process takes a bit longer for the student. When working on vocal quality, most of our students make progress weekly. Now, back to the original question.... How long? Our average student cycle has been about one year. Of course there are different levels of improvement for each student. 2. I get terrible stage fright. Can anything be done about that? Unfortunately, about 99% of the people we work with suffer some degree of stage fright. Can anything be done about it? YES! As you begin your journey through vocal training, students typically gain confidence, and we can then begin to introduce you to the art of performing. In our performance classes you will be introduced to singing in front of other people. Those "other people" are students in the same class. In a very comfortable and supportive environment, our students improve both vocally and on the stage. You are also coached on stage presence, microphone usage, connecting with an audience and all the "do's and don'ts" of being a performer on stage. Nervousness may never disappear completely, yet dealing with it and channeling the energy properly has helped many of our students to get on stage and sing to an audience in our very popular show cases. 3. I just can't understand how a voice can change from bad to good! Many people can't believe that their voice will ever be "GOOD". That's why we designed our first introductory session for adults. In this first session, we will show you our method and explain how and why we do what we do. We'll ask you to bring a blank audiocassette tape. We will record and send you home with some vocal exercises to start building and strengthening your voice. By the end of your first 45 minute session you should have a pretty good idea of how we approach vocal training. This should give you a very good idea if you think it will work for you. 4. I've heard that starting a child too young can damage their voice. Is that true? There are some exercises that have been said to damage children, yet children can learn a great deal without ever going near exercises. With children, one of our top priorities is FUN! We teach many, many children. Although it may be dangerous to work out a child's voice, they can learn to match pitches, sing strong, learn song arrangement, learn to sing with an accompanist, even sing in a real show. And above all, learn that singing is really FUN! |
